September is Scottish Archaeology Month and this year the DBLPS will be marking this celebration of Scotland’s heritage with a guided walk in the company the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Scotland team who recently completed the first phase of their audit of archaeological sites on Bute.

Led by Dr Alex Hale and George Geddes, the walk will explore a selection of the 461 known sites and 186 new sites that the Commission surveyed this year, in partnership with volunteers from the Bute community. It will focus on the dense and varied concentration of archaeological sites at the northern end of the island around Kilmichael.

The walk will take place this Saturday September 12th at 10.30 am. It will last around 3 and a half hours and is over a variety of ground conditions, some of which may be rough in places. Meeting point will be at the car park at the road end to Glecknabae farm. Participants should ensure that they are fully equipped for the wet weather and rough ground conditions. They should also bring lunches, snacks etc.

Places on this unique wander through Bute’s past are limited to 20. If you would like further information or to reserve a place then please contact Sharon MacDonald at
