Ancient Tree Hunt Training Day

The Woodland Trust is asking people all over the country to help find and map the locations of Britain’s oldest trees and all the trees identified will go on the Trust’s central database. This training day will familiarise you with the set up of the website, to record your findings, how to recognise ancient trees and how to map their exact location. this is a practical day which includes a walk in the countryside.

Paleoenvironmental Audit

Come along and find out how to take a peat core from the Bute Landscape. We will then be analysing the core to find out about past landscapes and earlier landuse and agriculture on Bute.

Build the Cnocnichol Path and Bridge
23/10/2010 - 28/10/2010

Come along and make a path through the Cnocnichol Woods. This will create a link between the West Island Way and Mount Stuart. It will also for part of the way run alongside an example of Thom's Cut. This is a piece of Industrial Archaeology. These cuts collected and delivered water to the cotton mills in Rothesay. Bute had the second cotton mills in Scotland.

Final Week of Training Surveying and Recording with RCAHMS

This is the final week of the RCAHMS - Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland - training, surveying and recording on Bute. Come along and learn how it is done.

Build Seats along the Tramway

Robert Sinclair will be leading another day of constructing seats along the Tramway in stone.
