Clearing fallen trees
The storm that struck the West of Scotland in January brought down trees in Lochend Wood on the Isle of Bute, blocking one of the most important of Thom's Cuts, the 19th century system of canals feeding water to Rothesay's cotton mills. The Cuts are a scheduled monument so the fallen trees have to be removed. Billy Shields and his team are spending a week cutting up the trees and winching them away to clear the Cut.
